A: Block heaters are generally installed in a freeze plug. In a four cyl. engine it is on the side of the engine facing the back or firewall. It is quite tricky to do, having a lift will be an asset. Call the dealer and see what he is quoting for the job. Then compare with what other garages are quoting.

A: I’m pretty sure that insurance doesn’t change when you get your permit, but it does change when you get your license. At that point, for you to be covered when you drive, you’ll need to be added to the insurance policy. It will probably be cost effective for your parents to specifically state that you will not be driving the 2011 BMW, and insure you on the other two cars instead.

A: Now that’s a really tough choice! We’ve owned both Toyotas and Hondas in our family and loved all of them.

However, personally, I would prefer the Toyotas. I think they are better made, have a SLIGHTLY better repair record, and are a better car overall.

If it were not for a “close encounter of the venison kind,” I would likely STILL be driving my 1978 Toyota Tercel today. It was 11 years old when the deer killed it. If it were not for that, I was expecting another 11 years out of it. And ever since that car, I’ve been “stuck” with a string of horrible vehicles… up until my parents sold me THEIR 1978 Toyota Camry. A: The current Santa Fe is an older, recently-refreshed model, while the current Tucson (ix35 in other markets) is a recently-released one. That accounts for the rebate, since Hyundai still has to move them off the lots in spite of of potential competition from their own Tucson.

I’m looking to buy a new car because mine took a dump on me. (Litterally. It dumped a bunch of anti-freeze and I was told the head gasket is blown and not worth repairing.)

Unfortunately, there are like 5 major dealerships within a 2 hour drive from where I live (3 in an hours drive). (our state was the most hardest hit by the government forcing dealerships to close.) So there is NO competition really.

I had it narrowed down to a 2011 Toyota Rav4 limited… but they were not budging price wise. (because there is no competition, they feel they don’t need to wheel and deal cause options are limited.)

after figuring things out, the total price was $30,000… and the sales guy came down to $29,200. He also would take my other car as a trade in for $400. I basically told him I’d be looking around for a better deal and that coming down less than $1000 wasn’t exactly impressive. Eventually he called me the next day and said he’d let it go for $27,400.

I found a Hyundai Santa Fe, 2011… AWD, leather seats, fully automatic, they are willing to sell for $26,400. The only thing would be that it wouldn’t get as good of gas milage as the Rav4.

I told the Toyota salesman if he can match them, I’d get the car today. He basically tried to make it sound like it wasn’t that great of a deal because Hyundai is crap… (even though my brother had one and loved it for many years…)

but he refused to come down that extra $1000 to make the sale.

So my main question is… should I just say too bad so sad for you and give the sale to Hyundai? Should I give a second look to Dodge (the only other major dealership I had kind of brushed off.)

or am I being too tough on Toyota and passing up on a good deal to get a 2011 Rav4 for $27,400?

A: Make sure you know exactly what the factory warranty covers and what the extended warranty will cover beyond the factory. If your not planning on keeping the car longer than the warranty, then no. If you are, wait till it’s late in the year of 2010. And you don’t have to go through the dealer either. There may be other carriers out there that are cheaper and better. I’d say forget the extended warranty for now and save for one later.

Greetings, I have a 2011 ford Focus ses and I will try to make this email short and to the point

I recently researched the air box and MFA sensor difference between the 2010 focus and 2011 focus.
Since the same air box and MFA were used on both vehicles, I decided to buy an 2010 ford focus K & N CAI since the 2011 was not available.
The CAI works fine, however, at times there is a throttle lag which become dangerous if you are in the middle of an intersection and floor it, noticing you are not going anywhere for a while. By the time the car moves, you could have been hit by a car.

Therefore and since I cannot get a refund for the CAI, will this SCT Performance Chip tuner work on the 2011 ford focus and will this tuner solve the throttle lag problem?
In fact, why is the throttle lag happing, I do not undestand since it is the same air box, engine and MFA. In addition, there is no engine light.

let me emphasize that I am not out to convert my car into a race car, I simply wanted to add a CAI to further improve the gas mileage which it did. I went from 29 MPG to 37 MPG on the HWY. Since I cannot get a refund on the CAI I need a solution. Based on the throttle lag, will a performance chip solve this problem? Otherwise, the CAI goes on ebay.

A: save your money, do not waste it on plastic sewerpipe with an air filter stuck to it, these do not perform as advertised, in fact, they test them at wide open throttle. Do you plan to run around town at wide open throttle? I suggest you contact your local trusted mechanic, and ask him what he thinks, and while you are at it, ask him about performance chips or power chips, as this is the next many people do when throwing perfectly good money down the toilet. These products, do not live up to their billing, it is advertising and B S at its worst, If you want an extra pile of horses, use a turbo, a gm is now voiding warranties after a rash of transmission failures with chips, and keep this in mind, that little engine is already working hard, and the more power and the harder you make it work, the sooner it will blow up, Originally in about 92 those chips started to surface for mostly diesels, and even now, you can put a 4 or 5 stage chip on a diesel, and get some killer horsepower. But since 92 to present, vehicles that use chips, have been having some catastrophic failures often enough to warrant a second thought about using one. and the best thing to do, is check with your mechanic, because reality dictates, that if any of this crap worked, it would be on your car when you bought it. (and your car already has a cold air intake)

A: The UK already has the new style focus, and the US will get it in the 2012 model year. The US 2011 Focus is out now and is the same as the 2010 (and 2009), it’s the old body car.

EDIT – the UK has this car already, and as the other poster indicated the 2012 Focus will be in the US in the spring. If you are wondering about that station wagon or “estate” body style in the US – not coming, at least not at first.

A: I’ve driven both cars and fully enjoyed them both.
They are both well built, reliable, well appointed, safe and fun.
It all boils down to your own personal preferences and needs.

Personally , I would choose the Focus over the Fiesta simply because the huge incentives make it a better deal at the moment.

The reason for the incentives is that the newly designed Focus will be coming out soon, and then .. nobody will want the leftover ‘old’ design.
I’m not that vain and would rather have the “deal” now, than the latest design.

But that’s just my nature. I don’t judge peeps for wanting the latest in design and technology either. I’m just more frugal than them, but that doesn’t make them ‘bad’… just different than me.

A good deal is whichever vehicle you personally like more than the other.

A: It’s basic transportation more or less. If I were you I’d hold for 2012 Focus, we’re finally getting the euro-spec Focus in the states, it’s considered to be a far superior vehicle when compared to the outdated 2000-2011 model.

Q: How to add an amp into a Ford Focus 2011′?
Ok, so I bought a new focus, and it has only 4 speakers, however, I want to up this a bit and add two 10’s and a 12 in the trunk.

I have the speakers and a 400W amp, and they will all run the speakers fine without blowing them.
I am going to have the power wire run from the + side of the battery to the amp. And then I am going to have the remote wire run to the amp as well. Then I will ground the amp to the frame/chassis.

My question is this, I wont have to worry about the amp draining the battery because it will be connected via a remote wire from the stereo.
However I would like to be able to turn the amp and bass off when I want in case I get a call or something or am listening to something with no bass.
Instead of having to manually turn the bass down through the radio, I want to install a kill/toggle/on-off switch to it.

As far as I have read, this can be done fairly easy.
From what I understand, there are three cables going to the amp. The amp cable from the battery. The remote cable from the stereo. And the ground cable from anywhere.
Now If I wanted to attach a switch, I would do so on the remote cable right?

My understanding is that even though there is a power cable attached from the battery, it shouldnt drain it unless the remote cable is turned on…

Am I making sense? I plan on doing this all myself, and there are so many ways to hook things up that it is hard to find a decent walkthrough.

A: Correct, when the ignition is turned on, the remote wire goes hot, while the ground and positive wire are always hot, but the path between them is open till the remote wire goes hot and closes the path, turning the amp on.

Placing a switch of some sort in line on the remote wire would just prevent the amp from going hot. Unless of course the amp can also go hot from line level power, I know some amps don’t require a remote because they can go hot from RCA input.

Q: Trim on a Ford Focus?
I am looking to buy either a 2010 or 2011 Ford Focus. There are different types of trim, S, SE, SEL, ect…. I know the higher it goes the more pricey they are. what do those mean?

A: If you want something reliable, you have to buy a Honda or Toyota. Honda Civic coupe should fit your needs. Honda is known for outstanding reliability and fuel economy. I had a Ford Focus for 3 months, I took it for regular maintenance still it just broke down one day and didn’t work for 2 hours. My mom has a 2000 Honda Civic, it never had a problem. Never. Also my dad works for Ford and the environment is very relaxed. On most days, my dad doesn’t have any work to do. That’s how Ford and Chevy is, they are relaxed and they lack quality. Toyota and Honda are both very strict and their workers never get a second off which translated to outstanding quality. You’ll get the most out of your money with a Honda or Toyota.

Q: Aftermarket Sirius to 2011 Focus?
Just came home with a new stripped-down Ford Focus S yesterday. I had planned to throw my old portable Sirius Starmate receiver in there, pass audio through the Aux Input jack, and use my old magnet mount antenna.

But it looks like there might be a Sirius antenna already installed on the roof. If so, where is the plug end of the antenna cable? Might as well use Fords antena rather than risk scratched paint with the mag mount.

And, as an after thought, Is there a way to pipe my audio into the factory radio so it will play when I press the Sirius button? It would be extra cool to keep the Aux Input free for my Ipod.

A: A larger SUV like a Ford Expedition or Chevy Suburban would be better suited.

You are calculating right basing your trailer weight on the GVWR. GVWR is Gross Vehicle Weight Rating; this means that the trailer, when fully loaded, should not exceed 5,000 pounds. Dry Weight is the weight of the unloaded trailer and would be less than 5,000 pounds in this case.

Now, tow capacity varies greatly depending on equipment of the vehicle. Not all Explorers will have the same tow capacity. Towing capacity is dependent on engine, transmission, drive configuration, axle ratio and a host of other factors. Check the build sticker on the driver door jamb for towing capacity. You can also check the owners manual to see what the capacities are for the different equipment configurations.

I would still suggest looking into a larger SUV. Not only will they be better suited for towing, but will also be more comfortable when seating 7.

A: There is a chip that goes in the Versa near the bottom of the stereo. You have to replace that.

I just bought a 2011 nissan versa on saturday, and I opted to get one without a stereo, because in my old car I had a sub and an amp (which I removed), and I plan on putting them in my new car, and I know a factory radio doesnt have pre-amp hookups so I would be ripping the stereo out anyway which is why I didn’t want to pay the extra $1000 to get a versa with a stereo. I just want to know if the Versa speakers are any good? The Kenwood stereo I got has a low pass filter setting, which is awesome, cause I can control the cut off frequency. A: You’re smart to save the money and install aftermarket audio equipment. Your existing sub and amp should bring out the low end from your Kenwood.

Most factory speakers should be able to handle the output from a typical aftermarket head unit with no problems. Stock speakers in many Nissan’s are better than average and some even sound pretty good. I’d say run the stock speakers now and install better ones when you can afford them.

My old car was a 2002 Toyota Echo and I had a bangin system in there. I had an Alpine MRP M500 amp and a Kenwood KFCW3012 12″ Sub. When I bought the Versa, I wanted to put these components in it, which is why I chose the trim without the radio, seeing as you can’t have an amp hooked up to a stock stereo. I have an appointment on Thursday to get my new Kenwood headunit installed, as well as my Alpine and Kenwood sub that I took out of my old car. Even though the Versa came without a stereo, they still put in Audio pre-wire and 4 speakers to allow the addition of an aftermarket stereo which is awesome. So, I’m stuck in a really weird position because i have no idea how the Versa stock speakers sound, but they are brand new and have never been used. I was wondering if I am still going to get quality sound with these stock speakers….I plan to have the EQ totally leveled out with the Highs, Mids, and Lows all tuned to 0 on the Head unit so there is limited bass coming through the speakers, and then tuning the amp and controlling the sub via the head unit accordingly to get my desired bass level. Do you think I can crank the Versa’s speakers to a loud volume with limited bass and get a nice clean sound? Thanks!

A: heres the better ? why didnt you get the stereo? your gonna have to pay like another $150 just to install your headunit. all new vehicles require a piece which is like 150. trust me i ran into this same problem with my 06 impala. if you could get your normal stereo you could have just bought a $15 line out converter which makes you able to hook up your amp and subs using your back speaker. now which one is better 150 or 15? trust me mine is hooked up with my impala and it sounds just as good as a normal headunit would make it. and you should be able to get clear sound from your speakers no problem.

A: Nissan shopping myself. Hated the Versa. Too tiny. Leg room is ok, but it’s a really narrow car. Ton of 2009 & 2008 Sentras available with low miles which people turn in from leases. Available for $11,000 with under 30,000 miles. Have owned two previously. They drive forever. Also, if I read it correctly at the dealership, the Versa hasn’t been rated yet for safety. Test drive it and see how you like it. The 2008 Sentra I’m looking at has cd & can play your ipod, ac, power windows, etc. Wasn’t thrilled about the color or the style, but after driving it, I’m sold!

A: I have been doing a lot of research on these because I am looking to buy a fuel efficient vehicle for work and want to keep the miles down on my G37. Plus, the 20mpg on premium is killing me.

For some reason, the Versa sedans (the only version available stripped) score very poor in overall reliability. Consumers indicate braking and engine issues and it is scored a ‘well below average’ by Consumer Reports.

That being said, however, paying $6,000 for a brand new car is a steal. You still get the full factory warranty, so if you buy a car that lasts 3 years, $6K is still a good price (about $150 a month payment before taxes).

Where do you live? How many of these are available?
I have been looking at 2000-2002 Toyota Echos for between $4000-$5000 in good condition but if I can get a brand new stripped Versa for $6K, I would jump all over that.

A: get the mazda2. The suzuki isn’t very sporty, and the versa is MOST DEFINETELY not sporty. The mazda and nissan are both pretty reliable, but the mazda is much sportier.its a great little car tht gets good fuel mileage and can be fitted with quite a few options for a good price. Just 2 days ago my mom decided she wanted to trade in her 2005 Jeep Liberty for a 2011 Nissan Versa, because her liberty spent to much money on gas. She talked it out and the liberty was worth only 6,000.00. the Nissan Versa 16,000.00. they did the trade, and now she is thinking of getting the Jeep back, and returning the Nissan, cause she really dosent want to be making monthly payments. A: The only way she will get it back is if she goes and buys it back. However, it won’t be $6,000. More like $8,000.

There is no way to cancel the contract on the Versa anyways, so her desire to walk away without monthly payments is not a realistic expectation.

EDIT – Since you live in California, you should know the facts about the right to rescind your auto contract. This would involve someone actually coming to your house, explaining the right, and you purchasing that right. If that did not happen, there is no ‘cooling off’ period.
I have to assume it did not happen, or they would have already explained your rights to return the car.

A: The answer to that is yes.

There are basically 4 main parts of the audio spectrum… for simplicity, i will call them bass, midbass, mid and high.

any regular one piece speaker can produce 2 areas of the spectrum at the same time. this means that if you want to get mids and highs out of a speaker, you will be quite successful.
Similar if you want to get midbass and mids, for instance.

The reason for this is that the speaker has to physically move through the air to create the vibrations you hear as soundwaves. bass is a slow movement, while very high pitch would be moving almost 1,000 times as fast. (30hertz for sub woofer lows versus 20k hertz for tweeter highs)

Basically, asking a single cone speaker to move extremely fast while also moving extremely slow is just asking too much. a speaker can only handle a certain frequency range… which is where my 4 divisions come in.

So, on to your installation… you will find that the subwoofer on the amplifier can easily handle the bass and midbass for your small car. This means that your “stock” speakers can take over the job of the mids and highs.

If you have the equalizer set so that your stock speakers are only asked to handle the top portion of the sound spectrum, you will see that they perform surprisingly well. you just have to make sure to keep all the bass out of them. I have done installs like this before and they really rock on a budget.

You can experiment with it, but your settings will likely be something like -10 bass, -5mids +8 treble for the head unit. ((on a scale of +10 to -10)) This will allow the headunit to pump the 50 watts per channel (or whatever) to the door speakers filtered from distortion.

The SUB output on most head units is a separate output channel, so you can normally adjust that individually.

You will see that you get loud, distortion free music with a lot of separation between the lows and highs. Make sure you turn off the “loudness” feature, or at least experiment with it off. Loudness sort of overrides the equalizer function to some extent.

A: The newer the VW the more reliable it will be (the mk4 had a lot of trouble but since your not thinking of getting one..). My 1997 Jetta with the vr6 has been trouble free for me. Like many others have said, VWs need more love (maintenance) than Hondas or Nissans.

Just get it, lower it, and keep it fresh.

A: ARe you talking about how long will it take to order one, or how long it takes for the delivery at the dealership, once you sign the paperwork? If you order one it can take up to 3 months since they’re made in Korea. Once you sign the papers, it should take no more than 2 hours for delivery.

Currently in the market for a sporty, SUV, but I have narrowed my decision to these two.

ACURA…Love them, problem though is the pricing with full option. I’m lookin to pay more with FULL OPTIONS + trim around 47K.

With the Sorento on the other hand, I’m looking at little under 34K out the door, this is full option/trim. Not to mention its a AWD. Only problem with the KIA tho…is I’m not sure how reliable they are (never owned one). I’ve test driven this car quite a few times, and I absolutely love it but there is that little doubt.

A: Kia has somewhat of a bad rep partly because their small economy cars sell at such a low price. A: Do you mean a brand new engine from the factory (will be very very expensive) or a good low mileage used replacement engine. If it is the later, then about $2,000 to $3,000 depending on mileage and location (take a look at the link below). You could try craigslist to see if someone is parting out a Sorento (or a similar model that used the same engine), but late model cars will be hard to find – if at all. The 3.5L Sigma V6 was also used by various other Kia and Hyundai models. Take a look at the last link for a list of models that used this engine.

A: While Kia have improved immensley over what they were years ago, they still aren’t up to the reliability and resale value of Honda. The Element is more of a specialty vehilcle while the CR-V has wider appeal. My preference is the CR-V.

What I have alway liked about Honda is they all come loaded. There are no options. You decide what features you want and then select the trim level that has those features.

the only thing that’s not great is that unless you drive with a light foot it will not get great mpg. but the V6 power is nice to have.

A: Probably not. You have a few more years for them to work out the kinks and remember that extended warranties are calculated based on the average value to a customer. In other words, they are designed to be profitable. If the dealer charges you $1000 for the warranty that means that they expect the average customer to get less than $1000 in value from the warranty. Also, extended warranties are often shady and hard to redeem.

Hondas have sterling reputations for quality (no problems with AC or Audio listed in consumer reports) and I would guess that your problems are merely a fluke. I would definitely avoid the extended warranty.

A: With a tan interior Burgundy might look better. Also black attracts a a fair amount of heat during the summer months, turning the inside of your car to an oven. Something to consider.

A: I had to decide between the 08 Accord and the 08 Civic as well. (i got the Civic)

As far as gas mileage goes, we all know the civic is better on gas. The Civic i have gets about 35mpg average, which is really good. I do mostly highway driving, probably 85% highway, 15% city, so getting about 35mpg is great. Fill ups cost less and on 11 gallons of gas i go as far as my other cars go on around 18 gallons of gas.

As far as looks goes, if your buying the Civic EX-L sedan, then i would just say go with the Accord EX-L. To me, and to many people, the Civic sedan has an awkward looking rear end, and the Accord looks a lot more elegant then the Civic sedan. If you don’t mind getting a coupe, get a Civic coupe! I love the coupe, i get a lot of compliments on it, it looks great. I do like the look of the Accord coupe, but its not worth the price if you ask me. With rising gas prices today, i’d rather save that money for gasoline. I think most people would, and when the Civic EX-L coupe gets better gas mileage and still looks good, why not?

Both are reliable, so in the end it really comes down to what YOU want. Do you want to spend a little more and get less gas mileage, but gain more room. Or do you want to spend less, get better gas mileage, but have less room. If you don’t carry more than 3-4 people around all the time, the Civic should be fine. If your often taking 5 people, you probably want the Accord.

Either one you go for, you can save a little $$$ by knowing the invoice price (the price the dealer paid) for the car.

if you know the invoice price of the car, you can get a better deal. I would start with maybe just the invoice price when negotiating with the dealer, if they say no go up $200 or so each time. Try not to go way over it, you know the price the dealer got it for, so don’t let yourself get ripped off!

A: probably slightly warped rotors. If you haven’t had brakes yet, you’re probably due anyway. Usually that vibration can be cured by getting the rotors turned, but sometimes they need to be replaced.

As for why Honda only has 4 stars – I don’t think it is a conspiracy! If you compare it to Fiat’s Grande Punto which gets 5 stars, the Jazz does not have the Punto’s side body airbags, and side head airbags, the punto got more points on its seat belt warning and for doing the pole test. I imagine that if Honda have got any sense they will have made the new Jazz and Accord to be at least as good as their competitors!

I just bought my new 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 2 weeks ago, and all was well until about 2 days ago. It started acting up when I try to accellerate…it feels as if it is jerking into gear, or more like it is braking on its own. It seem to be straining until I get past 30 MPH, and then it seem to be ok. But then again, soon as I take my foot off the pedal, it is almost like I am applying the brake as the car slows down quickly – instead of coasting to a stop. Almost like a “grabbing” sensation….
Does anyone know what this could be? Its driving me crazy – as the car drove like a dream before this started. I am taking it in on Monday to have it looked at, but I am afraid they won’t understand what I am talking about. This vehicle only had 6 miles on it when I got it…do you think it needs to be tweaked? Could something be majorly wrong? Help!!!?

A: Hard to say if there’s something major wrong, but no question that is not normal at all and you noticed the sudden change. It sounds like an issue with the Transmission or ECU more than anything else. I hope you will post a followup later today if they diagnose the problem, would be interesting to see what they found.

Should I bring the car to another dealer? Is that normal?

A: You have a book that came with your car stating who to call if the car is not repaired. Look up the numbers and start calling. I have two Hyundai cars and let me tell you the same as the others here, that is not normal with the engine or transmission.
The next time you get a new car, find a better dealer who will fix your car.

A: My advice is go to the dealer and get one made. It probably does have a chip in it so it has to be programed to you car sadly. It costs about $90 to get a key made for you car. You cant go to lowes or home depot for that key. The cant program it.

You didn’t mention if you had any option packages, but you must have since the base retail price of the Santa Fe Limited FWD is $28,445. Lets assume you got a touring package with a retail of $3100, +$725 freight, – $3500 factory rebate and you get a price of $29,020 prior to any negotiation. So, its sounds like you got the price down to $28662 a discount of only $358, I think you could have gotten it for another $2000 off that price, so it was not a good deal based on the numbers I have listed here as your purchase price and package. Does your cash price include sales tax, in MD that would be $1700 on a vehicle like this.
Bottom line, you paid what you paid and now need to enjoy your new Santa Fe and be happy to know that you got a very nice SUV regardless of what you paid.

Q: 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe — Just got new transmission now “Check Engine” light is on?
Ok … I’ve had lots o’ trouble since having my Santa Fe serviced last week. A new transmission was put in and then a new starter the very next day. The starter was put in at the advice of the technician who stated that my starter was bad and needed replaced. Turns out the starter was not the culprit … this I found out when the car wouldn’t start the same night I brought it home from getting a new starter. Upon taking the car back to the dealership and further inspection, the technician found that “wiring to the transmission range selector switch failing intermittantly causing it to look like the starter was failing intermittantly. Necessary to replace 2 terminals in the ranger selector switch and reinstalled the old starter and retest many time and everything check ok at this time.” That was late in the afternoon when I picked up my “fixed” Santa Fe. The very next afternoon driving home from work, the check engine light comes on. I took to AutoZone to get a “heads-up” on the issue beforing returning to the Hyundai Service Center. Code was P0305. My Santa Fe is at the dealership now getting worked on. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Is it something caused by the previous work from this past week?? I am a female and just don’t want to get screwed over.
Oh yes … the AutoZone guy told me it was a misfire in cylinder 5. Hyundai just told me they are not seeing a misfire in cylinder 5 (although they verified this is what the code is for) and are trying to determine the cause of the check engine light.

A: I was right when I told you to take the car back because the cables have not being properly adjusted causing the gear selector not to allow the starter to jump. Now….related to fault code P0305, this indicates a missfire on cylinder #5. What would cause this? Hard to say… a bad spark plug or wire or failed injector. Could this have been caused by the tech that replaced your transmission? Possibly, but hard to say because I can’t see the quality of work he’s done. Best advise is to wait and see what the dealer comes up with. After that you can draw the line and make your judgment.

My Santa Fe had a new transmission put in this past weekend at a Hyundai dealership service center. When I arrived to pick it up, the service guy said that when he went to move it this morning, it would not start so he needed to put in a new starter; he said that the dashboard lights were lit up but there was no noise when he turned the key. He said they tried to jump it and that did nothing so it was the starter. So they put in a new starter … the car drove well that same day but that night when I went to leave, the same issue happened … it would not start. No noise or anything when I turned the key … all the lights worked … no help when I tried to jump it. Any suggestions??

A: When the dealer put the transmission back in the car did not adjust the shifter cable (for A/T) properly, it would not allow the engine to start. To find out, just try to remove shifter from P to D and then shift it HARD back to P. If it starts, all you have to do is to go back to dealer and have them adjusting the cable. Also, if it doesn’t work, shift in N and see if you can start. It looks like the starter doesn’t engage not because its broken but probably because the shifter lock doesn’t disengage.

Q: Do I need mounting brackets to mount new speakers (rear) in my 2004 hyundai santa fe?
I’m trying to install new speakers in my 04 hyundai santa fe. I’m putting in kicker ds600 speakers which are 6 4/3″ like crutchfield says. I pulled out the rear stock speakers and they are 6 3/4″ but theres a square bracket built into the speaker that makes it wider so it can be screwed into the frame. I cant install the new speakers without some kind of bracket to fit the frame. Does anyone know what I need to do or if I need to buy a bracket?

A: Shouldn’t.. The frames are the same between models even, therefore the holes are there no matter what model.. Should just be able to pop off the panel and install.. may need to drill and put self tapping screws in it or find the little frame clamp things that have threads on one side with a screw that goes in it.

Q: Should I buy a new Ford Focus or keep my 2002?

A: I usually change the factory oil to synthetic after I have about 1000 miles on it. But yes you can change it immediately, quite a few manufacturers ship their cars with synthetics, so you’ll be fine if you change it now.

this is because the key is coded to the vehicles modules

I have bought a new one from a dismantlers which is just in primer and comes with all the fixings. Is this easy enough for my partner to fit to the car? If so what is the best method? How do I go about getting the wing mirror sprayed? Is it possible to buy the paint and lacquer and get my partner to do this or should I get it done professionally? Any advice would be great. A: Very easy, the interior trim just pops off with a flat screw driver carefull not to damage it, then there are 3 nuts undo these and there you go just take it off and replace.
A far as the spraying i would get a paint shop to do it they won’t charge much, or look for a local chips away type person they will come to your home and paint it.
